Research On Tang Junyi's Cultural Concept

Tang Junyi(1909-1978) is an important representative of the second generation of modern neo-confucianism.At the end of the Anti-Japanese War,he had established the cultural concept of "moral self",that is,"moral reason" as the core.Tang Junyi believed that in seeking the realization of cultural ideals,moral rationality not only exists in conscious moral life,but also has superconscious or unconscious moral rationality.Therefore,all cultural activities of human beings are different manifestations of moral self or moral rationality.The theory of goodness of nature and cultural origin,moral self and moral reason are the metaphysical basis of Tang Junyi's cultural concept.According to whether people's rational self can be independent of people's desire,that is,whether they can keep their purity for a long time,Tang Junyi divided culture into two types: one is pure culture,including literature,art,science,philosophy and religion,and the other is social culture in ordinary daily life,including family,economy and politics.It is a common feature of neo-confucianism to stick to the value of traditional Chinese culture and seek the fit between Confucian culture and modern culture,and Tang Junyi is no exception.At a time when western cultural concepts were prevailing,Tang Junyi took it as his duty to carry forward Confucian Taoism,and at the same time,he actively absorbed the beneficial parts of western culture to improve his cultural concepts.In constructing its metaphysical system,the objectivity and transcendence of German classical philosophy are absorbed.The scientific spirit is contained in his own moral reason,and the method of western logic analysis is adopted to enrich his own cultural concept.In the face of the impact of western religious beliefs on Chinese people's values,he actively explored the religious function of Chinese traditional culture and constructed the belief system of Chinese culture according to the "three festivals" ceremony of Confucianism.In a word,Tang Junyi's cultural concept is a cultural form born in the stormy society,which shows the organic unity of times and nationality.It effectively responds to the shock and challenge of western culture.In today's society,with the rapid development of market economy and science and technology,people's material life has been greatly satisfied,but it also causes a big problem of human culture,that is,people have lost their subjectivity,freedom and individual real existence.Tang Junyi's cultural concept can provide reference for us to think about people's own problems,and also provide ideas and inspirations for the creative transformation and innovative development of traditional Chinese culture.
