Reading is an important way to obtain information and learn about the world.Looking at a sentence,scanning a paragraph or reading an article is reading.Reading exists everywhere.English reading not only helps students obtain information,but also helps them acquire language knowledge.English reading is of great help to students' future academic development and self-improvement.For students,junior middle school is an important period for them to systematically learn and get in touch with English reading.At this stage,the cultivation of reading ability directly affects the development of students in senior high school,college and even after work.After a long period of practice and observation,the author found that most English reading classes focus on the teaching of symbolic knowledge,and the interpretation of the article is simply to guide students to understand and think about what the article says,lacking in-depth analysis of the article and neglecting the cultivation of students' reading ability.The focus of English reading research is on the practice of reading teaching.The teaching of reading stays on the surface of the text and ignores the students' dominant position in reading.Few researchers have paid attention to the deep reading teaching.Exploring and studying deep reading plays an important role in improving the quality of reading class,cultivating students' reading ability and promoting students' sustainable development.Based on the theory of deep learning and the theories which are related to reading,this study mainly explores the performance and value of deep reading.Based on the author's understanding of deep reading classes,an English reading class is designed on the basis of relevant theories and principles.At last,the author puts forward suggestions on the deep reading teaching of English class in the light of the problems in current English reading teaching and students' reading learning.In this study,classroom observation and interview were used to investigate the current situation of English reading teaching and students' English reading learning,and relevant researches were carried out.The object of classroom observation is the English reading classes of three grades in a junior middle school in Changsha.26 reading classes were observed in total.The interview is a supplement to classroom observation.The author mainly utilized the lunch break to communicate with the students and teachers.The interviewees are students and English teachers from three grades in this school.With the help of the teachers,the author interviewed 3 English teachers and 10 students with excellent,good and poor English proficiency.After collecting the materials,the author immediately made statistics,collation and analysis of the data.Through classroom observation and interview,it is found that the current English reading teaching has the following problems: The reading teaching is mainly based on symbolic knowledge,while teaching is superficial.The teaching mode of reading is fixed and the teaching method is unitary.The reading lacks the aesthetic and emotional experience as well as reflection and evaluation.Students are in a passive position when reading,and the development of thinking is limited.The classroom is obviously teaching-oriented,followed by teachers' guidance,and students' learning comes last.The reasons for the lack of depth in reading teaching are as follows: Examination-oriented education leads to the teaching of reading based on knowledge indoctrination.The level of teachers' education theory is not high and subject knowledge restricts teachers' view of reading teaching.The importance of extracurricular reading is ignored.In view of the above problems and reasons,this study puts forward suggestions to promote the teaching of in-depth reading in English from the perspective of reading teaching.Teachers should strengthen their professional learning and improve their theoretical level.Teachers should strengthen the reading guidance of students and expand the depth and breadth of students' reading.Reading instruction should focus on stimulating students' interest in reading and arousing their initiative.Construct an English reading class which emphasizes the lives of students and teachers,the growth of the students,the dynamic changes of the classes and the life stylization of teaching.
