The overall goal of English teaching at the stage of compulsory education is to develop students' preliminary comprehensive language-using ability,promote their intellectual development,and enhance their humanities accomplishment through English learning,that is,to cultivate students' core quality.The development of the preliminary comprehensive language-using ability is based on the test on students' comprehensive language applied ability in listening,speaking,reading,and writing,in which reading plays an important role in junior middle school English teaching.Reading ability and students' attitude towards reading are the keys to students' absorption of knowledge.Only with good reading ability and correct reading attitude can student effectively cultivate comprehensive ability and core quality.Reading Circle is a new student-centered reading model,which is also a method for students to learn by themselves and with their group members.A “Reading Circle”is a student-led,demonstrative reading discussion group composed of students who choose the same reading material.Each group member has a different role,and they all are required to finish independent reading.Every member will share their views in the group,and then finish the task of reading and understanding of the reading article.(Harvey Daniels.1994)On the basis of the “Reading Circle” teaching model and English reading teaching in junior middle school,three research questions were raised in this thesis: 1.How to apply the “Reading Circle” teaching model to junior high school English reading teaching? 2.How the “Reading Circle” teaching model can have an influence on the students' English reading performance? 3.How the “Reading Circle” teaching model can have an effect on the students' learning attitude to English learning? Based on the analysisof the current situation of English reading in junior middle schools in China,the author referred to the teaching process of the “Reading Circle” teaching model,and adopted action research method to conduct a study on some junior middle school students in Changchun.Test papers,questionnaires,and interviews were used as research tools.The application effect of the “Reading Circle” teaching model used in junior middle school English reading class has been explored by the analysis of preand post-test results.In this study,the research subjects were divided into three groups based on the classification of high,medium and low scores,and sample interviews were conducted with them.According to the pre-and post-test results of the questionnaire,it is learned that the “Reading Circle” teaching model used in class can enhance students' reader awareness,improve their English reading attitude and develop thinking quality.Through the analysis of the results of the test papers before and after the experiment,it is found that with the application of “Reading Circle” teaching mode to English reading class in junior middle school,students are more able to identify the category of each test question and they can search the information in the reading text more quickly and accurately.Their reading scores have also been significantly improved.The analysis of the research results leads to the conclusion that the use of the“Reading Circle” teaching model in English reading class in junior middle school not only improves students' English reading attitude,but also is of great use of strengthening language points and improving their reading ability.That is to say,there is a positive correlation between the application of the “Reading Circle” teaching model and junior middle school students' English reading scores as well as their reading attitude.Therefore,the popularization and promotion of the “Reading Circle”teaching model in English class have a positive effect on English reading teaching in junior middle school.
