A Study On Literary Contention Of Literary Review (1957-1966)

From the inception in 1957 to suspension in 1966,the academic journal Literary Review witnessed the difficult course of literary research in the decade.Based on the contention articles involving major theoretical issues published in Literary Review in this ten years,the thesis shows different viewpoints and thinking modes in the special historical period and the scholars' insistence on the value of literature.At the beginning of its publication,the Literary Review proposed two important topics,"the staging and evaluation of literary history" and "realism and socialist realism",in order to be close to the realistic literary and artistic issues,which caused a wider literary and artistic debate.The related articles published in Literary Reviewnot only met the requirements of the era of literary research,but also reflected the care of literary subjectivity and the preliminary exploration of realist theory.The renamed Literary Review advocated debate with a more positive attitude,and opened a column to bring the issues closely related to the era to the depth of theoretical inquiry: First,the reflection on the "folk poem style" promoted the exploration of the rhythm of poetry;the second is leading the criticism of "human nature theory" to the interpretation of the concept of "resonance".As the literary situation became more tense after 1962,Literary Review could only find the discourse space between political standards and academic positions.Focusing on the evaluation of San JiaXiang,Ku Dou and History of Entrepreneurship,Literary Review carried out discussions on the determination of the literary works' class stand,the molding of "new heroes" and the value of "middle figures".Regrettably,some of them did not accord with the opinions of the mainstream class at that time,and eventually lost their rationality with the self-review of the Literary Review.During on the development of Literary Review over the ten years,its close attention to practical issues and the academic spirit that always advocated literature contention laid a solid foundation for the future Literary Review and also had a profound impact on the overall atmosphere of literary research.
