Vocabulary is the foundation of English learning.Vocabulary teaching is an important part of English teaching.So vocabulary plays a very important role in English learning.This paper chooses two classes of Grade 3 in No.6 middle school of Shangqiu in Henan province as the experimental class and the controlled class.The experimental class introduces conceptual metaphor into vocabulary teaching,while the control class does not.With the help of questionnaire,quantitative analysis of English vocabulary test papers,and semi-structured interview,this paper mainly discusses and researches two questions:1)can the application of conceptual metaphor in the vocabulary teaching in junior high school improve junior high school students' the ability of English vocabulary learning ? 2)Can the application of conceptual metaphor in the vocabulary teaching of junior high school students improve their interest in English vocabulary learning?After 16 weeks' teaching experiment,the following conclusions can be made:1)The application of conceptual metaphor to English vocabulary teaching in junior high school can improve the ability of English vocabulary learning.The specific performances: junior high school students can learn and understand English vocabulary from the perspective of conceptual metaphor cognition,so as to memorize English vocabulary more firmly.junior high school students can understand the metaphorical cognitive motivation of polysemy,and infer its correct meaning in specific context.junior high school students can associate the metaphorical meaning of English vocabulary on the basis of learning the prototypical of lexical meanings,so they can learn and understand the usage of English idioms and phrases more easily.2)The application of conceptual metaphor to English vocabulary teaching in junior high school can enhance their interest in English vocabulary learning.It can make the boring vocabulary learning more vivid and interesting,and make junior high school students learn and understand English vocabulary more actively.
