With the rapid development of image processing, neural network, and artificial intelligence(AI),“AI+” innovations have been integrated into new areas of industry and our daily lives. In the field of smart medicine,“AI+ medical imaging” incorporates medical image processing technology with deep learning, which can quickly complete the classification, target detection, segmentation and retrieval of images and facilitate effective treatment and diagnosis.AI technologies have been widely recognized to help improve the efficiency and accuracy of medical diagnosis, and accelerate the implementation of the hierarchical medical system and standard treatment policies. At present, target contouring represents the main application scenario of medical AI technology in the field of radiotherapy, which plays a critical role in the whole treatment for cancer patients. It is a report based on the translation of the User Guide of Radiotherapy Contouring Software. The software is composed of contouring client and system manager, and is designed for the contouring of tumors and related organs and tissues before making radiotherapy plans.Serving as a milestone in the medical AI filed, the software can reduce the time spent on target contouring and enhance the preciseness of the delineation of targeted volumes. It is hoped that the translation of the User Guide of Radiotherapy Contouring Software will help target readers have a more comprehensive understanding of the progress in medical AI technology in China, and at the same time provide technological references for target contouring. This report is completed under the guidance of Relevance Theory.According to Relevance Theory, the mission of the translator is to seek the optimal relevance between the source language and target language, crucially creating an expectation of optimal relevance, that is,an expectation on the part of the hearer that his attempt at interpretation will yield adequate contextual effects at minimal processing cost(Gutt,2010:25).In the translation of the User Guide of Radiotherapy Contouring Software, the translator infers correct and reasonable assumptions given underlying contexts and analyzes the source text from lexical, syntactical and discoursal levels respectively, hoping to achieve the optimal relevance between Chinese and English. In the pre-translation phase, after carefully studying the source text and parallel documents, the translator builds a detailed termbase by taking good advantage of technical dictionaries, industry corpora, and the CAT tool of Memo Q,for the purpose of improving the accuracy and efficiency of the target text.In the process of translation, guided by Relevance Theory, the translator thoroughly considers the choice of counterparts from lexical, syntactical and discoursal dimensions. With respect to technical terms, including some Chinese terms that have never been translated into English before, the translator tries to find the most suitable counterparts by referring to professional corpora, parallel texts and online resources. At the lexical and discoursal levels, the translator adopts semantic reconstruction to realize the optimal relevance by deducing contextual implications, reinforcing contextual assumptions, and eliminating contradictions or false assumptions. In the post-translation assessment,on the basis of self-modification,experts in the medical industry and medical software developers are invited to repeatedly proofread and polish the target text, ensuring the professionalism and authority of the target text. The report consists of five chapters.Chapter One covers the background, objective and significance of the report, together with a brief introduction to the internship company and the source text.Chapter Two describes three processes of translation, including pre-translation,while-translation,and post-translation.Chapter Three is devoted to an overview of Relevance Theory and its application in the translation process.Chapter Four describes the translation process from the perspectives of term explicitness, semantic reconstruction, and contextual effects with typical examples.Chapter Five concludes the report with detailed discussion on the reflections, limitations and suggestions.
