The Mongolian heroic epic Jangar is one of the three famous ethnic epics of China. It records the legendary story of the Mongolian heroes headed by Jangar who protected the ideal country of Bumba.Epic Jangar was listed as the first batch of National Intangible Culture Heritage in 2006.Therefore,the research of this thesis is based on English version of Jangar by T.Jamcha(2010).The epic is composed of three kinds of stories: sworn brothers' stories, marriage stories, and war stories.According to the classification criteria of conceptual metaphors proposed by Lakoff and Johnson, there are three categories: ontological metaphors, structural metaphors and orientational metaphors. And this paper analyzes the conceptual metaphor translations of epic with cases. This article considers that in the practical translation process, the correspondence of conceptual metaphor of the source language in the target language, and how to improve the acceptance of the target language readers are worthy of attention and discussion. The following conclusions are found through investigation: First of all, when translating ontological metaphors that involve substances in daily life, the main translation strategies are "interpretation" and “replacing metaphor”,and the translator will translate the metaphor of the original text into the metaphorical expression that exists in the target language or interpret it directly.Secondly, when translating structural metaphors, the translator's main translation strategies are to "preserve metaphor" or “replace metaphor”.However, when the source domains are same, and the target domain concepts are also consistent, the translator will retain the metaphor consistent with the original text.In other cases, the translator is basically “replacing metaphors”,of course,if it is unreasonable to retain the metaphor, the translator also adopts strategies of “interpretation”,or “omitting metaphor”.Finally, when translating orientational metaphors, which express chronological order, action meaning and social rank, the translator chooses the translation strategies of "interpretation" and “replacing metaphor”.Ethnic heroic epics are an important witness of the ethnic cultural, political, economic, and social development milestones, and also an significant part of the ethnic cultural strength of the country. This thesis analyzes and explores the translation principles of Jangar from the perspective of conceptual metaphor, hoping to make contributions to the translation and communication research of the Mongolian heroic epic Jangar.
