Based on previous studies on the meaning and function of Beijing dialect modal words,this paper combines statistics with qualitative analysis.The self-built database used in this paper whose corpus is collected from the lines and scripts of the large-scale domestic sitcom "I love my family".This paper attempts to explain the modal meanings and functions of some modal words and their differences by comparing them in spoken and written language.This paper is divided into four parts.The first chapter is the introduction,which mainly introduces the research object,research status,significance,methods and corpus sources.The second chapter is the analysis of modal words in the lines of "I love my family".Firstly,on the basis of statistics of spoken modal words in lines,the frequency and concurrence of them are described statistically.Secondly,this paper distinguishes the modal words between sentence-final and sentence-medial.On the basis of this,it is pointed out that the basic functions of modal words are marking information component and increasing or decreasing mood.Thirdly,this paper distinguishes the modal words in sentences that are different from the previous academic definitions,and analyzes that the modal words in "supplementary sentences" play a role in enhancing the sentence mood together with two different complementary elements.Fourthly,based on the previous research,this paper analyzes the modal meaning and functions of modal words in the sitcom.Six kinds of common modal words are selected to analyze their modal meanings and functions in detail.Fifthly,according to the statistical results,this paper finds thatpeople of different genders and ages have different preferences in the use of modal words.Finally,taking the protagonist Fu Ming as an example,this paper analyzes the modal meaning and function of the modal words "ma(?)" and "di(?)",and explores the effect of them in shaping his image.The third chapter is the comparison of modal words in the script and lines of "I love my family".Firstly,this paper makes statistics on the frequency and concurrence of modal words in the script,and lists the statistical results in the table.Secondly,this paper tries to explore the reasons why "me(?)" "na(?)" "luo(?)" "li(?)" "o(?)" "lie(?)" "lo(?)" and "ai(?)" are not present in spoken language,as well as the reasons why the sequence of concurrence of modal words are different.Thirdly,the situation of using different modal words in written and spoken language in the same sentence is statistically analyzed,and four groups of high-frequency modal words are summarized from the high-frequency modal words "la(?)" "a(?)" "ya(?)" "ma(?)" and "le(?)".Finally,taking "ne(?)" and "na(?)","le(?)" and "la(?)","a(?)" and "ya(?)" as examples,to explore the difference and connection between each group of modal words.The fourth chapter is the conclusion,which summarizes the viewpoints of this paper,to provide some references for further research on the usage of modal words in Beijing dialect and the differences in modern Chinese styles.
