Traditional metaphysics regards "infinity" as the foundation for people to settle down and live.People show the value and significance of their lives by pursuing infinity. However, traditional metaphysics sticks to the boundary between finite and infinite in the process of pursuing infinity.Infinity is always in the other world that finite wants to pursue but cannot reach.Such infinity is a limited infinity, and the two are in an opposite relationship.Kant discussed the relationship between finite and infinite in the transcendental dialectical theory of Critique of Pure Reason.Taking rational cosmology as an example, whether the world is limited or infinite leads to antinomy due to the transcendental application of limited categories. The contradiction between finite and infinite lies in the fields and scope of application of intellectual and rational cognitive abilities.Kant believes that human beings cannot imagine that they can transcend the boundaries to explore an independent and existing thing of freedom that is not limited by any experience.Infinite rational objects are beyond their reach.Generally speaking, the infinity mentioned here is always bound by finite. It is not really infinity.Hegel formed his speculative rational thinking while reflecting and criticizing traditional metaphysics and Kant's philosophy. In speculative rational thinking, intellectuality is an essential link of rationality and can progress to rationality.Such rationality has the ability to reach infinity.According to this speculative and rational thinking, infinity is not the "evil infinity" opposite to finite in the distant other world, but the "true infinity" that sublates boundaries in finite.Marxist philosophers gave a very pertinent evaluation to Hegel's thought of true infinity.Engels pointed out that although Hegel's system has mandatory structure problems, its content is of great value. We should go deep into the system to explore its valuable content when dealing with Hegel's view of truth in logic.Other scholars believe that Hegel's theory of trueinfinity serves his category system and may draw some far-fetched conclusions in some aspects. It can be seen that the academic circle has been disputing the relationship between finite and infinite, thus showing that this theory still has extensive research space.
