In recent years,Sandplay Therapy have developed greatly in China.Under the guidance of theory,Sandplay Therapy have been widely used in mental health education. This study contains two parts. The first one is to analyze the initial sandtray of middle school students with empathy difficulties by observing the differences on number of kinds of miniatures used, scenes created, characters of themes, space field between the experimental group and the control group; The second part is to intervene the students with empathy difficulties in single-parent families by using group sandplay in order to explore the intervention effectiveness of group sandplay. These two studies have a progressive relationship that enables a transition from diagnosis to intervention. In order to achieve the above research purposes.the first study was conducted using Davis's interpersonal reactivity index empathy questionnaire, and a random survey was conducted for 10 classes in the first grade of a middle school in Nanjing.A total of thirty students were randomly selected from the high-grade group and the low-grade group as subjects.Based on the theoretical research of other researchers, the initial sandplay of two groups was coded and analyzed by SPSS24.0.In the second study, the interpersonal reactivity index embedding questionnaire compiled by Davis was used to conduct a general survey of 15 classes in the first grade of an experimental middle school in Nanjing.According to the results of the interpersonal reactive empathy scale test, the children of single-parent families were compared with the average household for an independent sample t-test and found that the empathy scores of children of single-parent families were significantly lower than those of ordinary families.A total of 30 children with empathic difficulties were randomly selected from the members of the children of single-parent families. They were randomly divided into three groups, each with 5 males and females. The first group was a group-guidance control group and received a 4-week general group counseling. The second group was sandplay experimental group which received a 4-week group sandplay.and the third group was a blank control group, and no treatment was accepted. Finally, the actual intervention effect of the group sandplay is examined by the scale score. The results of the study showed that the high-grade group and the low-grade group achieved significant differences in the three categories of people, vehicles, and plants;there was no significant difference between the two groups in the total number of scenes created, and the number of war scenes in the low-grade group was significantly higher.Comparing within groups, the result indicated that there are more healing and less wounding theme signs in high-grade group.By ways of chi-square test, the low-grade group was significant higher voids, divisions, wounding, attack, threat.and the results under the cure theme showed that the two groups reached significant differences in the dimension of the trend. There was no significant difference in the total number of two groups presented in the space field. We confirmed that group sandplay is an effective way to enhance the empathy ability of children in single-parent families.
