Greek culture and Roman culture are the source of western classical civilization.There is a long and rich cultural exchange process between ancient Greece and Rome.Since the establishment of Rome,Rome has been influenced by Greek culture.From the late republic to the early empire,the degree of Roman "Hellenism" continued to deepen.In essence,the "Hellenism" of Rome is not only a process of innovation and development of Roman culture on the basis of absorbing and learning from Greek culture,but also a historical process of continuous integration of Greek and Roman culture.This paper consists of the following parts: in the introduction,it introduces the research status at home and abroad,the significance of the topic,innovations and research methods;The first part of the text discusses the background and conditions of Rome's "Hellenism" from three aspects: the early colonial activities of the Greeks in Italy,the conquest of Greece and the Hellenistic East during the Roman Republic,and the “Pax Romana” in the early Empire.Next,the conditions of Roman "Hellenism" are analyzed: the similarities between the Greek and Roman city-state systems,the influx of Greek and Hellenistic eastern immigrants,and the Romans' active acceptance of Greek culture.The second part expounds the various expression of Roman "Hellenism" from the late Roman Republic to the Empire from the perspectives of material cultures,which includes architectural carving,craft productions,costume dressing,town planning and banquet,and spiritual cultures which include religion and mythology,Language and education,literature and rhetoric,history and philosophy,entertainment and leisure,Medicine and funeral customs.The third part summarizes the characteristics of Rome's "Hellenism" from the perspectives of continuity and phase,extensiveness and inclusiveness,inheritance and innovation,as well as conservatism and limitation.Then it discusses the influence of the "Hellenism" of Rome on promoting the formation of Greco-Roman culture and building the cultural and national identity of the Romans,and evaluates the negative influence of the "Hellenism" of Rome as well.
