Eric Hobsbawm(1917-2012)is a well-known British Marxist historian and an internationally renowned historian.Hobsbawm is one of the important representatives of the new social history school.The new social history school is one of the three major historical schools after World War II.It still occupies an important position in the history field.In the field of Chinese and foreign historiography,his historiographic thoughts are different from those of historians.Studying his new social history thought can deepen his understanding of the new social history school and understand the "holistic history" and "bottom-up" historical methods.Chinese scholars' research on Hobsbawm's historical thoughts mainly stays at the theoretical level,but ignores historical practice guided by his historical theory.The full text is divided into introduction,Hobsbawm's new social history thoughts source,Hobsbawm's new social history thoughts main content,historical narration and interpretation of gangsters,jazz social history writing,radical shoemaker,The impact and evaluation of Hobsbawm's new social history thoughts are seven parts.The introduction introduces the research status and deficiencies of Hobsbawm's new social history thought at home and abroad,and explains the significance of the topic selection and the innovation,Research methods used.The first chapter mainly examines Hobsbawm's new social history thought from his own growth experience.Due to the influence of the political environment in his youth,he laid down his political attitude and interest in history.Hobsbawm's earlier Get in touch with Marxism.Marx's ideas of interpreting history from a holistic perspective,the overall view of history of the French yearbook school,and the focus on the role of "people" are the theoretical sources of Hobsbawm's historical thought.The second chapter introduces the main content of Hobsbawm's new social history thoughts.It mainly explains the thoughts of "holistic historiography" and "bottom-up" historical research methods from a theoretical perspective,and exemplifies the reflection of "holistic historiography" and "bottom-up" historical methods in many works.The Third,The fourth and The fifth chapters mainly discuss the historical practice that Hobsbawm uses his historical thought theory.Hobsbawm discusses the economics and politics of the gangsters,and the relationship between the gangsters and the revolution through an overview and classification of gangsters in society.Hobsbawm became associated with jazz,described the historical evolution of jazz,and discussed the relationship between jazz musicians,jazz,and politics.Hobsbawm paid attention to the radical shoemaker,explained the radical performance of the shoemaker,explored the causes of the shoemaker's radical thinking,studied the impact of social changes on the shoemaker,and the impact of the shoemaker's radicalism.Hobsbawm observes and thinks about gangsters,jazz,and shoemakers from a holistic perspective,reflecting his overall historical thinking,as well as his use of "bottom-up" historical methods to pay attention to "little people" in social life.The sixth chapter expounds the profound influence of Hobsbawm's new social history thought on non-Marxist historians,the European and American and Asian historians,and the contribution to class understanding.
