Walking Out The Times Of History Myth

E.J.Hobsbawm is a world famous and panegyrical master of modern history. He is also the distinguished Marxist historian and the leading person in the new society history school of Great Britain. Not only did he made a great contribution to the history research fiel, but also he had an unique eye towards the essential issues in history. Faced with the impact of relativism thought to the objectivity in history, E.J.Hobsbawm took another attitude and put forward the conception of history myth which focus on the influence to the compilation in history that made by politics, such as ideological facror. Centered with history myth, E.J.Hobsbawm formed his own system of history myth theory through discussing the reasons of its formation, the main body of its creation, the mode of its production and representation, historical function as well as the last disorganization. By distorting or inventing history, history myth creates a succession of political and social myth on the behalf of country, society or individual. It mixes history and myth, reality and fiction, hinders the way to fact exploration, menaces the objectivity and independence of history and produces much negative influence in our real life. So the discussion of E.J.Hobsbawm' history myth theory not only helps us to learn the context of history myth theory and its thinking way of disorganization, but also has an obvious realistic significance.The introduction part briefly introduces the development of history-myth relation, defines the history myth by giving prominence to the uniqueness of history myth theory, meanwhile, this part also points out study status of the topic and the innovation of this paper.This thesis is divided into four parts.Launching on time and theory background and personal life, Part One analyses the reasons of history myth theory's formation.In order to know the cause and effect of history myth, Part Two dissertates the content of history myth theory, mainly including the reasons of its formation, the main body of its creation, the mode of its production and representation, historical function and so on.Part Three discusses the thinking way of history myth proceeding with the body of disorganization of history myth, the jumping-off and sticking point of history myth disorganization, the key to history myth disorganization and so on.Part Four analyses the importance of history myth theory, the practical significance and its revelation to the present history theory field, viz. re-locating the relation between politics and history.
