| For foreign language learners,reading is considered to be an important skill in listening,speaking,reading and writing,reading is an important part of English teaching in high school,and it is also a compulsory content that the college entrance examination occupies a high score.Therefore,how to accurately obtain the deep meaning in the reading materials and develop students’ critical reading ability is particularly important.In practical reading teaching,teachers often pay more attention to vocabulary and grammar,which seriously hinders students’ enthusiasm for English reading learning.Teachers should try to innovate the current English reading teaching model and integrate critical reading strategies into English reading teaching to effectively improve students’ English learning autonomy.The purpose of this article is to study the specific application of critical reading strategies such as prediction,analysis,questioning,and summary in high school English reading teaching,so as to improve students’ English reading level and cultivate their critical thinking ability.Based on the theories of constructivism and critical discourse analysis,this article explores how to combine critical reading strategies with high school English reading teaching to effectively improve students’ English reading interest and quality.Some high school students from two classes in Harbin participate in this study,they are from Class eleven,Grade two and Class twelve,Grade two,in the early stage of the experiment,students in two classes were given questionnaires to explore their consciousness and frequency of using critical reading strategies,moreover,take the English reading score of the first monthly test as pre-test experimental data.In the teaching experiment,the students in the experimental class were introduced to the definition of critical reading strategy and its teaching mode in detail,and multilevel training was conducted,but the control class still uses the traditional teaching mode,focusing on vocabulary and grammar explanations,and uses exercises to strengthen the key knowledge of the text.After the teaching of critical reading strategies for one semester,the English reading test was conducted again in the experimental class and the control class to verify whether the critical reading strategies can improve students’ English reading level and ability,and the obtained data was analyzed and compared.In addition,questionnaires were again given to the experimental class to explore whether the frequency of students’ use of critical reading strategies increased,at the same time,some students in the experimental class were randomly selected for interviews to explore their mastery and acceptance of critical reading strategies.Through a semester of experimental research,the author found that integrating critical reading strategies into high school English reading teaching can effectively improve students’ interest in English reading and further improve their English reading level and ability,most of the students in the experimental class also express their appreciation for this kind of reading strategy,hoping that this study can have some enlightening effect on English reading teaching in the future. |
