As the foundation of language learning,vocabulary learning plays an indispensable role in English learning.With the development of society,the traditional vocabulary teaching method has gradually failed to keep up with the trend of the times and the needs of high school students’ vocabulary learning,therefore,in recent years,scholars have paid much attention to the research on English vocabulary teaching methods in senior high school.With the development of multimodal discourse analysis theory in recent years,some scholars begin to introduce it into specific subject teaching,and try to explore the advantages of multimodal teaching method.The purpose of this study is to apply the multimodal teaching method to English vocabulary teaching in senior high school and explore its advantages in English vocabulary teaching in senior high school,with a view to providing new ideas and approaches for the future English vocabulary teaching in senior high school,which is of guiding significance in theory and practice.In this study,the author proposed two research questions:(1)What is the impact of the multimodal teaching method on students’ interest and attitude towards vocabulary learning?(2)What is the impact of the multimodal teaching method on students’ vocabulary learning results compared with the traditional vocabulary teaching method?Taking the opportunity of an internship in a key senior high school in Harbin,Heilongjiang,the author selected students from two classes of senior two as samples for this study,namely,Experimental Class A and Control Class B,in which the multimodal teaching method and the traditional teaching method were used for one semester of teaching experiments.After the teaching experiment,the author collects the data by means of questionnaires,interviews and tests,and uses SPSS23.0 to complete the data analysis.The results show that the multimodal teaching method can improve students’ interest and attitude towards vocabulary learning.Compared with the traditional vocabulary teaching method,the multimodal teaching method is more helpful to students’ vocabulary learning,when it comes to the cognitive aspect of vocabulary meaning and spelling or the application of vocabulary.Therefore,teachers can try to usethe multimodal teaching method when teaching vocabulary to high school students.At the end of the thesis,according to the results of this study and the problems found in the process,the author draws some teaching enlightenments,puts forward some suggestions for the teaching of multimodal vocabulary in senior high school,and proposes a series of prospects about the future research on vocabulary teaching and the multimodal teaching method.
