Franz Schubert(1797-1828)was one of the most important Austrian composers in the history of Western music.As a pioneer of piano music in the Romantic Period,his musical works combined classicalism and romanticism.Although his life is short(only31 years),he made an outstanding contribution in the creation of Impromptu,sonata and art song.The development of impromptu has undergone three stages,that is the Baroque Period,the Classical Period,and the Romantic Period.And finally,impromptu becomes one of the typical musical genres of the 19 th century Romantic Period.His musical works combine the features of vocal music and piano music.Besides,his musical works not only inherits the main characteristics of classical music,but also makes innovations on the basis of classical musical.Hence,the melody of Schubert's impromptus is very singing.At the stage of the transition from the Classical Period to the Romantic Period,due to the functionality of harmony was almost saturated,composers strived to explore new harmony techniques to achieve a better Sound effect.This study,taking Schubert's eight piano improvisations as research objects,mainly studied Schubert and his piano improvisations in three aspects.Firstly,we briefly introduced Schubert's life,background,music creation,and the origin and development of improvisation.Then,we focused on Schubert's improvisation(Op.90 Op.142)and the use of harmony techniques.In this section,we analyzed the natural system chords,variable system chords,non-harmonic tone,sustaining notes,and the flexibility of mode and tonality in detail.Finally,we briefly discussed the artistic creation characteristics of Schubert's improvisation(Op.90 Op.142)based on melody,texture and rhythm.The final aim of the above research is to have a better understanding of the harmony technique and artistic creation features in the Schubert's improvisation(Op.90 Op.142)...
