This research is an empirical study on the effect of contrastive syntactic teaching on English writing sentences of secondary vocational school students.As is well known,Chinglish and the writing of only simple sentences are very common problems in students' writing.According to Liu Xiao Fang(2010),the problem of Chinglish is mainly caused by the negative transfer of the mother tongue.So far a large number of studies and practices have proved that contrastive teaching of English and Chinese syntax can effectively reduce negative transfer and promote positive transfer.At present,a lot of the researches on the contrastive teaching of English and Chinese syntax have been made in ordinary high schools and universities,but very few in secondary vocational schools where the problem of Chinglish is even more serious.Therefore,based on the contrastive analysis theory,transfer theory and error analysis theory,and supported by the previous researches,the current study attempts to adopt the method of contrastive teaching of English and Chinese syntax in secondary vocational English class to explore the following two questions: :1)What is the effect of contrastive teaching of English and Chinese syntax on improving the accuracy of English writing sentences of secondary vocational school students compared with the traditional teaching? 2)What is the effect of contrastive teaching of English and Chinese syntax on improving the complexity of English writing sentences of secondary vocational school students compared with the traditional teaching? The main research instrument employed in this study is instructional experiment,in which both the contrastive teaching and traditional teaching are conducted respectively in the two experimental classes formed by senior grade two students in the secondary vocational school and the pre-test and post-test are carried out,whose data are obtained and analyzed by EXCEL and SPSS.The auxiliary research instrument is questionnaire survey.The research findings show that: 1)the contrastive teaching of English and Chinese syntax is more effective in improving the accuracy of students' English writing sentences than the traditional teaching.2)the contrastive teaching of English and Chinese syntax is more effective in improving the complexity of students' English writing sentences than the traditional teaching.This study may not only have some practical significance for the improvement of the teaching of English writing sentences in secondary vocational schools,but also be helpful for the reform of English teaching in general.
