Cities are impacted by their own activities when they run various socio-economic activities, and they are also subject to sudden natural disaster risks. On the one hand, these disturbances will affect people's daily lives and endanger the safety of life and property,on the other hand,it also brings difficulty to urban governance and sustainable development of urban safety. At present,China's urban population, land use,and economic factors are continually agglomerated, and the city scale has increased in all directions,in this process, these cities often face more uncertainty in their development, and the uncertainty of their ability to resist is also to some extent compelling cities to have resilience.Cities have become an important space carrier for human survival.Clarifying the interactive relationship between urban resilience and city scale is a prerequisite for promoting the safe and sustainable development of cities, and has far-reaching significance.Firstly, this paper reviews the literature on urban resilience and city size at home and abroad, and qualitatively analyzes the mechanism of the relationship between urban resilience and city scale.Comprehensively used measurement methods such as factor analysis, vector error correction model, impulse response function, and variance decomposition to thoroughly explore the interactive relationship between urban resilience and urban scale in the middle reaches of the Yangtze River, inorder to provide basis and reference for the policy and strategy of urban resilience and scale construction in the study area. The results are as follows:(1)The correlation matrix analysis shows that in the middle reaches of the Yangtze River, there is a strong positive correlation between urban resilience and urban scale.(2)The vector error correction model shows that in the short term, the impact of urban resilience on urban scale is positive, while the change of urban scale will have a negative impact on the level of urban resilience.(3)The results of impulse response and variance decomposition for urban resilience and urban size show that: In the entire urban agglomeration, there is a positive interaction between urban resilience and urban scale.Specific to different regions, the interaction between urban resilience and urban scale of large-scale and small-scale cities is generally positive, while the urban resilience of medium-scale cities is positive on the urban scale, the impact of city size on urban resilience is negative, and the contribution of variance is much less than that of large-scale cities,small-scale cities and the whole urban agglomeration.According to the above analysis results, the paper proposes to build a systematic relationship between them from the following aspects: continue to strengthen the construction of urban resilience, guide the benign development of urban scale;promote the construction of urban scale by layers, and create conditions for the improvement of urban resilience.
