A Report On Dialogue Interpreting In The Medical Institution

With the rapid development of the global economy,China's connection with the world is getting closer.Meanwhile,more and more foreigners choose to work and settle in China,which will inevitably give rise to problems during the communication process.This practice report uses the interpreter's experience of accompanying the foreigners to the hospitals,analyzes the differences in the discourses of the genders and the reasons behind,and gives corresponding solutions.In this thesis,the author mainly analyzes gender differences in terms of vocabulary,rhetoric,and syntax.At the lexical level,females' words tend to be more euphemistic,conservative,and men use more straightforward and strong words.At the rhetoric level,women prefer to use exaggerated rhetoric,while men pay more attention to information transmission and use flat narrative language.While at the syntax level,women use exclamatory sentences more often,and men frequently use declarative sentences.According to the three aspects of the gender language,the author proposes corresponding translation strategies,namely,explicitation and ellipsis,exaggerated generalization and literal translation,negation and amplification,which can help the interpreter coordinate the whole interpreting event.The thesis is divided into four chapters.The introduction explains the origin,task background,task features,and basic framework of the article.Interpreting process,including pre-interpreting,while-interpreting,and post-interpreting,is introduced in the first chapter.The second chapter is the theoretical basis.The author mainly introduces the relevant theoretical knowledge of gender theory and its application in interpreting field.The third chapter is an analysis of the interpreting cases under the guidance of gender theory.Through practical examples,the language that reflects the characteristics of gender language in the interpreting practice is classified.The fourth chapter summarizes the limitations after interpreting and reviews the problems and deficiencies in the practice.Interpreting practice under the guidance of gender theory is a relatively new field,so the author hopes that this paper can shed some light on future interpreting practice.
