Reading is an important part in English teaching.From the thesis trend of the test in China these years,it is obvious that English is increasing the demands and the difficulties for students.However,in most of Chinese English classes,most English teachers spend a lot of time and energy in dealing with the words,explaining sentences and grammar.As a result,students are bored in reading,lack of grasp and understanding of the deep meaning of the text after reading,and their reading interest and reading ability are not high.As a visual thinking tool,mind map was proposed by Tony Buzan in1960 s.It combines rich colors,connects words,pictures,etc.with lines to express thinking content and thinking process.This lively expression arouses students' curiosity and attention,which is conducive to stimulating students' creativity,divergent thinking and macro thinking.In this paper,mind map is applied to the teaching of English reading in junior high school,hoping to find a way to improve the effectiveness of English reading teaching.This paper mainly explores the following two questions.First,what is the impact of the application of mind map on junior high school students' English reading interest ? Second,what is the impact of the application of mind map on junior high school students' English reading ability?On the basis of literature review,this paper summarizes the research on mind map and English reading teaching,and points out that thetheoretical basis of mind map is constructivism theory and knowledge visualization theory,and explores the current research situation.Then the author introduces how mind map is applied to English reading teaching in the experimental process.Through the data of questionnaires,reading tests and students' participation,the author analyzes and discusses the students' English reading situation before and after the experiment,and draws the experimental conclusionThe results show that: First,mind map can stimulate students' interest in English reading and help them break through the psychological barriers in reading.Second,mind map can improve students' reading ability,including the ability to use reading strategies effectively to improve reading test scores.This paper confirmed the effectiveness of application of mind map in English reading teaching in junior high school.
