As a long standing social issue about public health,early-life stress has attracted worldwide attention.Every year, about 60.8% of children and adolescents have experienced or witnessed traumatic events. This study combined qualitative and quantitative studies to systematically explore the effects of early-life stress on the physical and mental health of adults.First of all,we use the case study method to conduct qualitative research through psychological consultation.Secondly, the use of questionnaires to study the role of cross-time stability of early-life stress, the mechanism of action, and protective factors for quantitative research. The pre-study found that the group of early stress exposure had lower mental health level, stronger psychological pain, longer cumulative psychological consultation time, and could have an influence on individual stability over time;the group of early stress exposure had negative evaluation on its own stability, and this cognition had the characteristics of automatic activation, and speculated that early stress might form stable negative personality traits through the accumulation of negative cognition, and thus had an influence on individuals;and the third,it was found that emotional regulation and social support were important factors in the intervention of individual cases.Study 1 explored the relative effects of early-life stress, adult trauma, and negative life events on anxiety and depression symptoms in college students.Traumatic events often induce a series of traumatic symptoms because of their suddenness or extreme nature. The accumulation of negative stress events in daily life may cause individuals to experience overload stress. Therefore,we should distinguish the impact of adult traumatic events and negative life events in the study from early-life stress on the current level of anxiety and depression symptoms.Hierarchical regression analysis was performed on 632 subjects, and parallel analysis was conducted to control the interaction between anxiety and depression and minimize potential confounding factors. The results showed that only the interpretation rate of adult trauma was significant when the effect on depression was examined alone. After controlling the level of depression, the explanation rate of anxiety was significant for adult trauma, maltreatment & neglect, and other factors. The explanation rate of negative life events to anxiety and depression was not significant.Study 2 examined whether childhood trauma could significantly predict the level of anxiety and depression symptoms through the chain mediator effect of the individualized negative essentialism and the vulnerable personality to depression. The results show that the 95% confidence interval of the mediating effect value does not include 0,and the mediating effect is significant.Childhood trauma can predict the level of anxiety and depression through the individualized negative essentialism, and childhood trauma can also predict the level of anxiety and depression through the vulnerable personality to depression, and childhood trauma can predict the current level of anxiety and depression through the chain intermediary of the individualized negative essentialism and the vulnerable personality to depression.Study 3 examined whether the moderating effect of social support and emotional regulation on childhood trauma to the level of depressive and anxiety symptoms was significant. The subjects were the same as study 2.In the analysis of the moderating effect,it is found that the moderating effect of emotion regulation and social support is significant. From the influence of social support, the level of depressive and anxiety symptoms of college students with high social support is lower, and the degree of social support of college students with low childhood trauma is lower, and the score of anxiety and depression symptoms is higher. From the influence of emotional regulation, the higher the emotional regulation ability, the lower the current level of anxiety and depression symptoms with the increase of childhood trauma. To sum up,this study found that the effect of early-life stress on the stability of mental health in adults may be mediated by the chain mediating effect of the vulnerable personality to depression and the individualized negative essentialism. Moreover, emotional regulation and social support can regulate the relationship between early-life stress and the levels of depressive and anxiety symptoms.
