The main source of learning opportunities for primary school students is the classes.The study of equity of learning opportunities for middle and high grades of primary school students in the English classes is not only a practical need to promote fairness in primary education,but also an important part of improving the quality of primary education.This study which focuses on the middle and high grades English classes studies the current situation of learning opportunities in primary English classes.Based on this,the equality of learning opportunities will be improved.In order to understand the current situation of primary school students' learning opportunities in the English classes,we selected Q Primary School as the research object.Combining classroom observations with interviews with teachers to analyze the primary school students' equality of learning opportunity.According to opportunity classification of Fischerkin,this study divides learning opportunities into qualification learning opportunities,item learning opportunities,and development learning opportunities.It uses the Rawls principle of justice as the standard to analyze the fairness of primary school students' learning opportunities from the aspects of gender,position,academic level,seat arrangement,learning resources,teacher questions,group activities,and teacher evaluation and feedback.The study found that:(1)The higher the students' personal abilities and grades,the more learning opportunities they will receive for qualifications;(2)the better the students' class seats and surrounding atmosphere,the more learning opportunities they will receive for items;(3)The higher the teacher's teaching skills and classroom organization skills,the more learning opportunities the primary schoollearning opportunities in English classes is affected by teachers' level,students themselves,school assessment systems and the social environment.Combined with the teaching practice of English teachers in Q Primary School,here are five suggestions to promote equality of learning opportunities for primary school students in English:(1)adding more English positions or implement a "rotation system" to promote fair opportunities for qualifications;(2)arrange "English class seats" or change seats regularly to improve fair learning opportunities for items;(3)improve teachers' teaching skills and classroom organization skills to promote equality of development learning opportunities;(4)promote teachers' fairness awareness and optimize teacher' assessment system;(5)improve social environment and establish correct teacher values.
