A Research On The Fiction Materials Of Tu Long's Hong Bao

Tu Long is one of the representatives of the litterateur in Jiajing and Wanli period of the Ming Dynasty,considered as one of the five literati in Retro school.With alarge quantity and rich contents,Hong Bao reflects religious Thought of “Three Religion Combination”.Hong Bao has academic value,so Si Ku Quan Shu classify it as Eclectics.Based on an intensive analysis of the compiling features and the speciality of fiction,Qi Liansun's Yi Qing Cang Shu Lou Shu Mu classify it as Novels.Influenced by the cultural atmosphere of that time,Tu Long not only collects and arranges the materials of historical biography,fiction,the Taoist Scriptures,but also writes his own works.By the content and creative characteristics,Hong Bao is roughly classified into three categories: Stories recording Spirits,Stories recording Anecdotes,Stories recording geographic natural science.Tu Long uses fictitious materials to explain “Three Religion Combination”.For instance,Tu Long learns from the methods of narration in historical biography and writes Yi Shi Zhuan,which centered on Confucian thought.Yuan Dui and Ming Bao contains lots of ghosts and gods stories.The idea of karma permeates into all the narration of the scripture.The thought on immortality was an important factor in Tu Long's writing.Lie Xian Zhuan Bu describes many contemporary immortal figures.Some dream stories describe Tu Long's background and process of seeking Tao.The fiction materials in Hong Bao reflect the unity of story and knowledge,and the combination of reason and narration.These fiction materials,together with Tu Long's opera and poetry works,reflect his views on religion and literature and play an important part in Tu Long's study.
