Beixin Press is a medium-sized private press founded in Beijing in 1925 and later moved to Shanghai. In the two decades before the founding of the People's Republic of China, the press published many new literary books, mainly in the form of "literary series".This thesis focuses on Beixin Press and the "Literature Series" published by it,focusing not only on the editorial philosophy and management characteristics of Beixin Press, but also on the dissemination of creative "Literature Series" and new literature, foreign resources for translation "Literature Series" and new literature,as well as other "Literature Series" and summarizing their characteristics, and analyzing the reasons for Beixin Press' shift in publishing. These aspects form a systematic and organic whole based on the editor-in-chief and organizational composition of the "Literature Series" of the Beixin Press, the Zhou brothers' guidance to young authors in editing and publishing,Lu Xun's contribution to the translation of overseas works as well as that of excellent translators, and the importance the Beixin Press attaches to children's literature and folk stories and the existential difficulties they face.Li Xiaofeng, the founder of the Beixin Press, was also the main editorial director of the press. He set the policy of "literature and science" publishing with Zhao Jingshun, who later joined the company.Although Beixin Press is family-run,Lu Xun plays an important role in the business. As a result, the Press has published a number of "new literature" books of high quality.Beixin Press were particularly influenced by Lu Xun,who took part in the publication of "Xinchoshe Literary and Art Series","Uhe Series","Kuyuzhai Series" and other series in the dual capacity of "author" and "editor".While respecting famous writers,Beixin Press also attaches importance to the discovery of newcomers, and the debut works of many new literary talents have been included in the "Creation Series" and "Creation New Issue" series, which is enough to occupy a place in new literary publications.Zhao Jingshen, who joined the press midway through his career, became the right-hand man for Beixin Press, and his activities with literary figures and commentaries on related works promoted the dissemination of new literary works outside the publishing arena.Translation is another important part of Beixin Press. The "Unnamed Series" edited by Lu Xun kicked off the translation series."Novels by European and American masters" included works of Turgenev,Chekov,Dumas and other world literary masters. The "self-study English series" and "English mini-series" focuses on English literature,in which the translation of English essays has positively influenced the development of modern prose in China. These translated "literature series" enrich the foreign resources of new Chinese literature. In addition, the assistance of famous translators such as Liang Yuchun and Zhang Yousong has also enriched North New Books' translation series. In addition to the above mentioned, there are 15 other "Literature Series" published by Beixin Press, featuring children's literature and folk tales. After being closed for many times,Beixin Press adjusted its publishing direction out of realistic pressure and consideration of economic benefit. The turn of publishing accomplished the development of Beixin Press, but it was also a betrayal of its original publishing ideal. In a word, the "Literature Series" published by Beixin Press is of high quality and considerable quantity. These works reflected the development and change of the times and promoted the further development of Chinese modern literature.
