"Taste" has always been an aesthetic problem discussed by aestheticians. From "taste" to "aesthetic judgment" terms, the theoretical development of "taste" has gone through a long process.Until the eighteenth century, the core of aesthetic issues became "aesthetic taste." Jane Austen is the only female writer who is as famous as Shakespeare, whose compositions have been popular for a long time. The readers can see that Jane Austen had her own perspectives about taste by reading her compositions. On the one hand,Jane Austen considered that people who has ample tastes are more inclusive and they can conquer their prejudice;on the other hand, she considered that taste can evoke sensibility, emotion and feelings. However, blind immersion in emotion can be harmful.People can improve their taste by education and rational reflection in practice. If sensibility is personal and secretive, sympathy is more relevant to the community.Emphasizing Jane Austen's perspectives about taste is the importance of benevolent and sympathy for a stable society. The article selects Jane Austen' s “Sense and Sensibility” “Pride and Prejudice” “Emma” “Northanger Abbey” “Persuasion” and “Mansfield park” to study. The content is divided into four chapters.Chapter One starts with the meaning of taste, whether in a narrow sense or in a broad sense,Jane Austen 's works are all involved, such as the different people 's aesthetic feelings and tendencies towards different daily activities, natural scenery, art, and literature.By combing the development of taste theories in different schools and different periods analyzes the fun viewpoints in Jane Austen's works. In addition, through the classification of taste, explore the types of taste in Jane Austen's works,as well as Jane Austen's emotional attitude towards different tastes. In the eighteenth century, taste was somewhat equal to style From the aesthetic taste classification of literature,Jane Austen's work itself is a manifestation of elegant taste. Therefore, the second chapter will explore Jane Austen's creative style from comedy and satire.Jane Austen satirizes people's ignorance, flattery, and hypocrisy embodied by different tastes by portraying different comic characters, and using verbal irony and situational irony. It is this comic art and irony that has made Jane Austen's work popular with people until now.The third chapter is about specific tastes and their effect. On the one hand, taste enriches the character's image and promotes the dialogue and emotional communication of the characters;on the other hand, taste promotes the development of the plot of the novel. Therefore,in Jane Austen's works, taste is indispensable. The fourth chapter is about the reflection on taste, which is concluding the relationship between taste and prejudice, and the effect of education in improving taste. It is precisely because rich taste can break people's prejudices and allow people to face narrow people and views with a more tolerant attitude; On the other hand, education and taste complement each other.Rich taste reflects a good education, and continuous acceptance of education will continue to improve the taste. The fifth chapter is about the relationship between taste and sensibility, and the effect of rational reflection in practice in improving taste.Taste can arouse people's emotions, but excessive emotions will lead to a break between egoism and others. Therefore,Jane Austen believes that not all tastes are beneficial.Just as the aesthetician Shaftesbury divided taste into "natural taste","good taste" and "bad taste".Whether it is through self-learning or good education, taste needs to be obtained and improved through rational reflection in practice. The main purpose of this thesis is to analyze how Jane Austen reflected the importance of taste and the ways and methods to improve taste under the influence of the taste theories in the eighteen century, and behind these perspectives of taste,Jane Austen's consideration on the relationship between taste, education, marriage, family and society.
