| English curriculum is aimed at cultivating and developing students’ key competencies,which includes language competence,cultural awareness,thinking quality and learning competence.Among them,thinking quality refers to the ability and level of students’ thinking in terms of logicality,criticism and innovation.Meanwhile,English reading classes play an important role in cultivat ing students’ thinking quality,which can not only help students acquire information and facilitate students’ in-depth comprehension,but also develop their thinking quality by understanding,analyzing,and evaluating.While reading,effective readers apply more than one kind of model and prefer to use interactive reading model to comprehend the whole passage and thus develop thinking quality at the same time.The purpose of this study is to explore how to cultivate students’ thinking quality with implementation of interactive reading model.The three research questions are as follows:1.What is the current situation of middle school students’ thinking quality?2.How can interactive reading model influence students’ thinking quality?3.What impacts does interactive reading model make on students’ thinking quality in English reading class?In this study,46 eighth grade students from Xialuozhai middle school in Yiwu City,Zhejiang Province are taken as the research objects.In English reading class,interactive reading model is applied to cultivate thinking quality,and questionnaires,classroom observation,and interview are used to fully analyze the impact of interactive reading model on students’ thinking quality.The major findings can be summarized as follows: first of all,students’ thinking qualities vary differently.The logical thinking of middle school students is in the leading position,creative and critical thinking has also developed with one-sided and superficial characteristics respectively.Secondly,the interactive reading model can help students to effectively use skills of prediction,analysis,reasoning,judgment,creation and improve the quality of thinking by activating the background schema,interpreting the text and judging the author’s writing intention.Finally,in English reading class,interactive reading model can cultivate students’ multiple thinking qualities.Among them,the promotion of students’ logical thinking is most obvious,followed by critical thinking and innovative thinking.In addition,this study puts forward suggestions on the importance of students’ thinking quality cultivation,individual differences and teachers’ professional ability. |
