Situational teaching is widely used in foreign language teaching.In this study,the author integrated the situational teaching with intercultural teaching to enhance students' intercultural sensitivity(ICS).This study aims to explore the effectiveness of the application of situational teaching in junior high school to intercultural teaching to improve the students' ICS.The study focuses on the following two issues: 1)Is it effective to apply situational teaching method in intercultural teaching to improve students' intercultural sensitivity? And how effective is it? 2)How do students perceive the effectiveness of the application of situation teaching method in intercultural teaching?For the first question,with the newly designed situational teaching method in intercultural teaching,79 students are selected as participants from the first grade of a junior high school in Hangzhou.Among the 79 students,40 students are in the experimental class while the others are in the control class.The designed situational teaching is applied in the English teaching for 3 months in the experimental class while the teaching method used in control class is followed school arrangements.Chen's Intercultural Sensitivity Scale(ISS)was used for pre-test and post-test.Then,the data statistics and analysis of the results of intercultural communication sensitivity was processed by SPSS 24.Through the statistics and analysis of the data,it shows that: the intercultural sensitivity of the students in EC and CC has been improved after the experiment,and the results of the students in EC are significantly higher than those in CC.This proves that the situational teaching is comparatively more effective than the general teaching methods in improving students' intercultural sensitivity.For the second research question,the author interviews 9 students of EC.Through the analysis of the interview results,the main findings are as follows: First of all,situational teaching can improve students' curiosity of cultural exploration.Secondly,through the cultural comparison and exploration in specific situations,students can develop their corresponding skills,deepen the cultural knowledge and foster a positive attitude.Thirdly,when solving problems in situations,students can learn to understand and think about problems from the perspective of each other and form views about different cultures.Finally,situational teaching promotes students to express their opinions in English more actively and confidently.It's suggested to apply situational teaching to intercultural teaching in junior high school.The combination of the situations and intercultural teaching can not only improve student's intercultural competence,but also promote English language learning.
