With the development of globalization,English has become a lingua franca and is playing an important role in cross-cultural communication.Language and culture are inseparable.Cultural awareness has a significant influence on language learners.Only when they understand the background knowledge of the language,can they truly understand and use it.English Curriculum Criteria points out that English teaching should be conducive to students' understanding of foreign cultures.The reading-writing combination teaching is different from other methods.Teachers first explain cross-cultural knowledge via reading materials,then assign students related writing tasks.Through the corresponding written expression,students can understand and process the cross-cultural learning,and then to improve their awareness of cross-culture.The present study,making use of both qualitative and quantitative data,intended to investigate the current situation of English intercultural awareness training in junior high school and the influential factors of the results.The subjects of this study are students of Grade Nine and English teachers from Wenshang County.The results indicate that the intercultural communication ability of the subjects is far from satisfied.Both teachers and students agree that intercultural awareness is important to English learning.The present classroom teaching is still language-focus,paying little attention on cultivating students' intercultural awareness.Factors from students,teachers,textbooks and requirements of examination influence a lot of intercultural awareness.The following are some implications from this study:(1)Teachers need to change their concepts by teaching reflection and improving their own cultural awareness.(2)Teachers need to make full use of teaching materials,adopt flexible teaching and training methods to cultivate students' cross-cultural awareness.(3)Students need a reasonable attitude towards examination and learn cross-cultural knowledge actively.
