Nowadays,“memory” is more and more widely used in artistic painting. When making a analysis of the case study on artists,I found that many artists apply “memory” to their creation in the process of painting creation, and the visual presentations of their pictures are different. Then I dug the word “memory” and found that “episodic memory” under its branch is undeniably correlated to the artist's painting creation, and is one of the necessary ways of painting creation.Derived from Western cognitive psychology and was first proposed by a Canadian psychologist E.Tolvin in 1927,episodic memory is a memory method under the branch of long-term memory. The episodic memory includes the basic processes of encoding, storing and retrieving. The so-called episodic memory retrieval refers to the search of the information stored by individuals for past events. There are two basic forms of episodic memory retrieval: "recognition" and "recall".Starting from the two basic forms presented in the process of retrieving episodic memory, the author summarizes the ways in which episodic memory is used in painting creation as memory reorganization and memory fiction, which will be the focus of discussion on this paper by the author. The paper is divided into four chapters. The first chapter briefly describes the background and significance of the topic selection, the current status of domestic and foreign studies on this topic, and the study methods used in writing the paper. The second chapter discusses the concept of episodic memory, the epistemic memory in my understanding, and the reason why I introduced episodic memory; The third chapter mainly discusses the visual presentation of memory reorganization in painting creation,by 1.discussing how Peter Doig used images to reorganize memory images for creation;2.discussing how Goya used "reproduction" to reorganize memory images for creation;3.expounding how I draw on the two creative methods and use memory reorganization in my personal creation. The fourth chapter mainly discusses the visual representation of memory fiction in painting creation, and studies the different visual representation of memory fiction in painting creation by using comparative analysis. The discussion is mainly carried out by: 1.discussing the use of documentary fictional memory images in painting creation with Yu Hong's "You Yuan Jing Meng" an example.2.analyzing Chagall's "I and the Village" to demonstrate the presentation of surreal fictional memory image in the painting creation;3.discussing the use of memory fiction in my own creative practice. In summary, the episodic memory has already been used in painting creation.Due to the effect of different factors on the two forms-"recognition" and "recall" during the retrieval process, memory reorganization and memory fiction occur during the extraction process. In addition, the different ways of memory reorganization and memory fiction used in creation lead to the different visual presentation effects of episodic memory in painting creation. With the development of painting, artists have gradually interpreted society from a micro perspective, and used individualized and fragmented language features to express the creator's personal episodic memory, and reproduce and entrust personal feelings. With the diversified forms of application of episodic memory in painting creation,as young creators,we should constantly absorb and learn from the predecessors, and try to extend more creative paths related to "episodic memory".
