For thousands of years,profound cultural deposits,unique geographical location and outstanding natural conditions in the western Hunan Province,have given birth to abundant resources of intangible cultural heritage.Among them,Maogusi,as the most primitive dance of the Tujia Minority and the “living fossil” of Chinese drama,has gradually evolved into such original forms of drama as reclaiming the wilderness,fishing,hunting and other pioneering achievements to worship the Tujia ancestors.Ancestor Worship of Xiangxi is a record collected and written by a large number of scholars to rescue intangible cultural heritage of Xiangxi.And in accordance with this,the author selected the first two sections of its first chapter as the source text,aimed at spreading the Tujia culture,and making the utmost efforts to accumulate practical experience of intangible cultural heritage translation and enriching the study in the Tujia culture translation.The source text is a geographical information text for introduction and publicity,including a quantities of the Tujia cultural characteristics,based on which the author takes “Skopos Theory”as theoretical guidance.And specifically,the author analyzes certain examples of the source text from the lexical perspective.In the lexical perspective,a in-depth study on the translation of the Tujia Ethnic dialect,culture-loaded words and four-character phrases is mainly discussed,in which the author,also in terms of Skopos Theory and with domestication and foreignization,sums up related translation methods like transliteration,inside or outside annotation,literal translation,liberal translation and others.Respectively,the author tentatively and creatively translated the Tujia Ethnic dialect either included or not temporarily included in the authoritative dictionaries with such translation methods as international phonetic conversion with foot notation,international phonetic conversion with inside annotation,transliteration with foot notation and transliterationwith inside annotation;and the author classified the examples of culture-loaded words in the text into Tujia historical culture-loaded words,Tujia play culture-loaded words,Chinese culture-loaded words and Chinese classics names and translated them with transliteration,liberal translation,literal translation and transliteration with annotation and so on;in addition,when translation fixed idiomatic phrases and temporarily synthesized four-character phrases,translation methods like subtraction,literal translation,transformation,amplification are used.It is indicated that when translating such a text with unique Tujia characteristics into English,the author should not only start from a deep understanding of its cultural connotation,but also choose appropriate translation theory as a guidance,adopt specific translation methods,and finally conclude the experience and shortcomings as well.Meanwhile,its significance lies in making up for the deficiency of intangible cultural heritage translation research and practice,promoting the output of ethnic culture and achieving the goal of international cultural communication.
