A Report On C-E Translation Of The Excerpts From Approaching China High-speed Railway

Approaching China High-speed Railway is a book in the China high-speed railway(CHSR)Series,published by Shanghai Science and Technology Literature Press.It introduces the development history,technology and management,and social functions of CHSR.The translation source text of this report is selected from section1-2 of Chapter 6 in this book,which focuses on the social functions of CHSR and introduces how it promotes the development of the economy and the construction of urban agglomerations.The translation is hoped to introduce the construction and development of CHSR for foreign readers,and give some insights to the translation of the texts related to high-speed railway.According to Halliday and Hasan's theory on cohesion and coherence,this report focuses on the translation conversion of cohesion and coherence in the source text.In the aspect of cohesion conversion,the report states that amplification can be used to translate zero-subject sentences.Literal translation and amplification can be used to deal with the logical relationship in the source text.Free translation can be adopted to the conversion of lexical cohesion.In the aspect of coherence conversion,there are two translation methods for the zero-subject sentences and running sentences,including word order adjustment and logical reorganization,which can achieve transmission of information flow and semantic coherence.The report has summarized some relevant methods about discourse translation,hoping to provide reference for the translation of same type.
