Unlike Ian Mc Ewan's other novels which usually set males as protagonists, with the heroine Serena, female characters play more important roles in his Sweet Tooth. The novelist reveals the living conditions of women in the 1960 s and 1970 s through these characters. This thesis aims to apply Henry Lefebvre's spatial theory, from the perspectives of representations of space and representational space,to analyze different spatial practices of males and females in living space, public space and body space in the novel.Men use spatial practice to conceive representations of space that oppress women, and women construct the resistant representational space through spatial practice.By probing into this, the writer is going to reveal female characters' obedience and submission, underlying female consciousness, resistant consciousness as well as subject consciousness,so as to emphasize the importance of awakening female consciousness of equality, resistance and subject reconstruction in the male-dominated space.
