Toni Morrison is a famous African American female writer, Nobel Prize winner, and is famous for her writing characteristics which focus on the black history, life and culture. Love is one of Morrison’s peak works telling the rise and fall of the evolution of a black family in the civil rights movement. Through the life and emotional experience of Cose and his family generations especially the love and hate entanglements between them, the novel shows different ways of love and vivid life of the black people. Love is criticized as "a beautiful epic from obsession to slavery and liberation." The novel vividly reflects the existence confusion and struggle of the blacks in social and spiritual space, and also the self-improvement and self-transformation under the Spatial practice. The Space Turning promotes the study of space in the 20 th century, scholars began to focus on the space features in the text. Lefebvre’s Space Theory fits this theme research, his Space Theory mainly contains Representations of space, Spatial practice and Representational space. The three aspects are abstract concepts, but there are essential differences between the three, and also inseparable contact. Representations of space is dominant in the society, its ideology reflects the dominant space. While Spatial practice means the space transformation under the daily living practice, it produces social space. Then Representational space represents the living space is also a controlled space. The link between the three can be interpreted as: discourse and power Representations of space orders the spatial practice and affects the Representational space, and the formation of the three parts decides the social space. The racial space political clues and the relations among racial and social reality in Morrison’s Love fits the space theory viewpoint. The novel Love reveals the existence state and ideology of the blacks under the strong Representations of space, and the blacks seek for various practical struggle to expand living space and for racial equality. The racial struggle between the blacks and the whites, individual and groups, men and women, parent generation to the younger one reflect the powerful political power in manipulating the social reality. Meanwhile the mind shackles of the blacks fall them into self-slavery and self-oppression and in the end lead to loss on their road to racial practice. The interpretation of Morrison’s Love under the Space Theory hopes to provide a different understanding perspective for the research of the other similar works, and thinking of the great significance of the human spatial experience in the development of the society and the evolution of civilization while reading literary works.
