Fang Zengxian’s Chinese Figure Painting Modeling And Aesthetic Research

After thousands of years’ development,the Chinese figure painting takes on amodern form,rendering it a new connotation.In the reformist movement of Chinese figure-painting in the 20 th century,Fang Zengxian is a painter who can never be ignored.Based upon a careful study and interpretation of anatomy in the western painting and the traditional techniques applied in Chinese flower-and-bird painting,he comes up with a set of modeling methods suitable for delineation of modern ordinarypeople’ s life.With the integration of realistic figure-modeling and the traditional.Chinese technique of Brush-and-Ink Painting,vivid and profound images of the ordinary people and their lively real life find a way for full presentation.In Fang Zengxian’s works,the characters are finely modeled,dynamically captured as close as to life and vividly depicted with application of thick and heavy lines and dripping.water and ink technique.This paper is divided into two parts.The first part is meant to study the sources of Fang Zengxian’s figure-modeling,the modeling structure,the application of brush-and-ink technique,the form expression and so on.In addition,it summarizes the features and methods of figure-modeling and the artistic achievements of his Chinese figure painting.Furthermore,taken into account is his aesthetic thought of the trinity:the object structure,the image structure and the mental structure.Based upon the author’s practice in the creation of figures in traditional Chinese painting,the second part briefly describes the application of his figure modeling method and aesthetic thoughts on the author’s figure painting creation.making clear the positive influence of his modeling method on today’s Chinese figure painting creation.
