Minotaur is a highly representative theme in the Vollard Suite created by Picasso in the1930 s.The image of Minotaur portrayed by Picasso is not a simple presenting and recreating of ancient myths, but to express its intentions and emotions by injecting the artist's own thoughts and spirit into Minotaur's image.Picasso also made it clear that there is a very high similarity between himself and Minotaur. Therefore,Minotaur series of prints have become a typical series of Picasso's art works with high artistic value.Through the research on Minotaur prints,we can understand Picasso's own emotional state when creating this series of works,as well as the artist's internal thinking and characteristics. The way artists present their works is also unique.Metaphor is the most important figure of speech and expression in these works. The purpose of this paper is to explore and study the Minotaur series prints by Picasso,as well as the potential spiritual core and the subjective will expressed by the artist behind the Minotaur series prints.Through the analysis of Picasso's expression-metaphor,find the mirror relationship between Picasso and his portrayed image Minotaur, and carry on the deep analysis and narration. The paper is divided into four levels for demonstration.First, this paper will start from the creative motivation and reasons for the formation of Minotaur prints, and take the social background and the artist as a reference to find the environment and ideological situation that the artist faced before and after creating Minotaur prints, and then analyze the internal relation between Picasso and his mythical image Minotaur. In the second stage of the demonstration, this paper will select a few more representative Minotaur prints, use the relevant knowledge of imagery, analyze these works one by one,and find the complexity of Minotaur's image in the work, including the complexity of the type of relationship that this image interacts with and associates with other characters in the picture,as well as the complexity shown on the spiritual level. In the third stage of this paper, this paper will use thetheories of mythology and psychoanalysis to study the underlying mental mechanism and psychological defense mechanism of Picasso, and explore how Picasso can effectively show the Minotaur image as his second personality in his art works. Finally,in the fourth stage of the paper, the author further discusses the problems caused by Minotaur prints and the role and significance of Minotaur prints in Picasso's personal artistic creation career. The process of Picasso's creation of Minotaur prints is like a process of dialogue with himself. The artist injects the subject's emotions and desires into the expression of art works, and expresses his own dilemma through artistic language,so as to achieve the purpose of relieving the distress and depressed desire in the heart. Therefore,Picasso's process of creating Minotaur prints was a process of getting out of the maze of difficulties and the process of reaching reconciliation with himself.Through Minotaur prints,Picasso gradually changed from focusing on the inner world of the individual to paying attention to the broader collective and events, and the later artistic creation turned from the depiction of his own diary to the empathy and reflection of society and war.Minotaur prints is not only a window for Picasso as an artist to face the world and the times, but also a window for us to study Picasso. It not only witnessed the transformation of Picasso's subjective perspective, but also condensed the human consciousness and cognition that changed with the times.
