Grammar knowledge plays an important role in English teaching, and the cultivation of grammar competence is vital to improve students' ability to use language.Textbooks are the main source and tool of grammar teaching and also the important material and means to achieve English grammar teaching goals.Language practice activities and exercises in textbooks are important ways and processes for students to learn grammar knowledge and develop language skills. After the implementation of the new textbook policy, various versions of high school English textbooks flooded into the market which provided different materials for grammar teaching. How to scientifically and reasonably evaluate and use the grammatical part of textbooks now particularly important.Larsen Freeman's three-dimensional grammar theory challenges the traditional grammatical view in that it divides grammar into three dimensions---form,meaning,use,and it is a trend in grammar teaching.Framed by three-dimensional grammar theory this thesis uses literature review method, content analysis method, and data statistics method.First,Grammar items will be compared and the same grammar items will be chosen as study objects. With the 2017 edition of Normal High School English Curriculum Standards as the evaluation criteria the macroscopic comparison of the three-dimensional distribution of the selected research objects will be carried out.Afterwards, the similarities and differences between the presentation and practice in the two sets of grammar part the textbooks will be compared in terms of form, meaning and usage. It is found that the grammatical parts of the two sets of textbooks have both similarities and differences, each with its own characteristics. On the overall three-dimensional distribution of the grammar, whether in terms of the presentation of grammar content or grammar practice, both sets of textbooks can take into account the three dimensions of grammar. However,in Advance with English, the presentation of grammar content is more comprehensive in the three dimensions and reflects the application guided requirement of the curriculum standards. In the grammar practice,New Senior English for China Student embodies the principle of application orientation. The specific similarities and differences in the three dimensions of the two sets of textbook grammar are: the presentation of grammatical content in both two sets of textbooks can reflect the explicit teaching and implicit teaching according to the characteristics of grammar items, and both reflect the high frequency in form teaching. However, the NSEFSs are better at guiding students to perceive grammatical forms in discourse, providing more meaning training, diverse grammar application activities, paying attention to the use of grammar in communication, and combining grammar teaching with language skills.AWEs are more inclined to provide a rich sentence example to present grammar, describing different contexts in the exercise, allowing students to practice the use of grammar in the context. The comparison of the grammar sections of the two sets of textbooks has different implications for teachers using two sets of textbooks to teach grammar.
