The thesis aims to make an effective analysis about the design of grammar section related to tenses in Look Ahead and the Oxford Textbooks(Shanghai Edition)for Junior High School.Then the features of the design are discussed in detail.After analysis,it was found that both sets of textbooks adopt traditional presentation-practice approach.And compared to deductive approach,inductive approach is preferred.Both sets of textbooks equip learners with explicit knowledge and implicit knowledge through reception and production activities.In the two sets of textbooks,more discourse level input is supplied to learners than discrete sentence level input.Teaching technique of input flood and input saliency are used,so that learners can notice the target grammar structure better.As for grammar activities,both sets of textbooks focus on all the three dimensions of grammar – form,meaning and pragmatic use,which enables learners develop the ability of using the target language accurately,meaningfully and appropriately.As for the activity type,both sets of textbooks provide more production activities than reception and judgement activities.Subsequent to the findings,the author gave some suggestions about the design of grammar section for textbook writers to improve textbooks,and for teachers to use textbooks better.
