Guo Ang was a poet and general of ethnic Han in the early Yuan Dynasty.After hired for his outstanding military ability when he was nearly 40,he galloped all over the country and was bestowed Grand General Zhao Wu(official name)and Xuanwei Emissary of Guangdong Area(official name,too),and died in his post.As a military general,who named for military,Guo Ang had contacts with Yao Sui,Wang Yun,Hu Zhiyu and other literati in the early Yuan Dynasty,and he left more than 600 poems,which making him special in the literati group of early Yuan Dynasty.The poems he left not only show us the various social phenomena in early Yuan Dynasty from the perspective of a Han General in Mongolian Yuan army,but also his contradictory and complex psychology of two identities being a general and a literatus or between Mongolian and Han.This paper found many mistakes and gaps in the History of the Yuan Dynasty and other historical and biographical documents,sorted out the process of compilation and loss of the Ye Zhai's Poetry Anthology,correcedt more than 40 errors of Guo Ang's poems in the yuan dynasty poetry collection published in recent years and made a relatively comprehensive addendum to Guo Ang's poems based on the Guo's genealogy and other relevant existing literature.Through all of these studies,we strive to objectively and accurately restore Guo Ang's original literary status in early Yuan Dynasty and provide documentary basis for the study of his literary achievement.This paper is divided into four chapters to explore the problems related to Guo Ang and his poetry.The introduction clarifies the existing problems in the previous researches by sorting out the research status of Guo Ang's life,poetry and literary achievements in recent years.And according to the newly discovered data of the Guo's genealogy,expounds the value and significance of this research subject and explains the research ideas of this paper.The first chapter is divided into three sections: family background,native place,birth and death date.Namely,The background of Guo Ang's military meritorious family in Yuan Dynasty is cleared,and several kinds of rural sayings about his native place caused by the migration of clans are identified,and the problems of different speculations on Guo Ang's birth and death based on the biography of the History of the Yuan Dynasty are corrected.The second chapter,“Study of the Official Career” is chronologically divided by regions into five sections,each of which is to conduct supplementary research and correct the erroneousevidence of important events in his life.Section I “Early Life and Official Career Entrance” is mainly correct the track of Guo Ang's entering official career in 1265(the 2nd year of Zhiyuan in Yuan Dynasty)owing to appreciation of Lian Xixian,and supply his strict education by his father and study tour in previous years;Section II “Early Official Career in Lu,Chuan and Xiang” is mainly the supplementary textual research and sort out to Guo Ang's first official career reviews in Shandong,Xichuan and Xiangyang from 1266 to 1275(the 3rd year to 12 th year of Zhiyuan);Section III “Regains Mandong(remote nation minority)in Huguang” is the replenishment of official career performance and promotion,and the correction of related records in Official History in Jinghu and Yungui from 1276 to 1282(in the 13th-19 th year of Zhiyuan);The fourth section “Jailed in Jiangxi” is a textual research on the unrecorded incident in the Official History that Guo Ang was jailed undeservedly during 1282-1286(the 19th-23 rd year of Zhiyuan),and other cases in Jiangxi before and after this incident.In the fifth section,“Expedition to Jiaozhi from Guangnan” is a study of the deeds before and after Guo Ang's appointed expedition to Jiaozhi between 1286 and 1288(the 23rd-25 th year of Zhiyuan),as well as the supplement and correction of the deeds in his later years.The third chapter “The Publication,Loss and Collection of the Ye Zhai's Poetry Anthology” is divided into three sections.And these section respectively carry on the supplementary textual research on the time of completion,circulation and the process of loss of the Ye Zhai's Poetry Anthology,and found 46 errors in the poems of Guo Ang collected from the Poems of Yuan Dynasty,then according to the relevant literature to correct these errors.The fourth chapter “New Discovery and Value of Guo Ang's poetry” is also divided into three sections: The first section mainly reviews the literature style of the WenYi's Poetry Collection in the third volume of the Guo's genealogy,and compares it with the results of the previous collection.Identified that 133 of the 203 selected poems of Guo were first seen.The second section mainly focuses on the value of the WenYi's Poetry Collection: Philological Value,Historical Material Value and Literature Value;The third section “Supplement of Guo's poetry to the Poems of Yuan Dynasty” is the collection and addendum of Guo's poetry existing in the WenYi's Poetry Collection and relevant local records,general collections,category books,etc,but not included in the Poems of Yuan Dynasty,in order to fill the void left by the loss of Guo's poetry as fully as possible.The epilogue summarizes the research results of this paper and points out the direction of continuous study of Guo Ang's poetry.
