Media multitasking refers to the use of different forms of media at the same time. With the development of electronic products, the Media multitasking has gradually become the mainstream trend of young people's media use.For example, when listening to music, you can reply to wechat or play mobile phone while watching TV.Previous studies have shown that frequent participation in media multitasking has an impact on cognitive control, while cognitive control deficiencies lead to reduced prospective memory performance. However, there is no study to explore whether media multitasking has an effect on prospective memory. In view of the fact that normal prospective memory is an important guarantee for people's study, work and life,it is of great theoretical and practical significance to explore the influence of frequent use of media multitasking on prospective memory in today's life. Therefore, this study uses the Media Use Questionnaire(MUQ)to measure the media use of college students, and uses Focal and Nonfocal prospective memory tasks combined with ERP technology to explore the prospective memory characteristics of media multitasking individuals. The first experiment explored the relationship among media multitasking, cognitive control and prospective memory.Through n-back task,GO/NoGo task and digital switching task, combined with structural equation model, this paper explores how media multitasking affects the performance of prospective memory through the switching, updating and inhibiting functions of cognitive control. The related results and the results of structural equation model show that media multitasking further affects the performance of Focal and Nonfocal prospective memory tasks by affecting the inhibition function of cognitive control, that is,the individual who frequently participates in media multitasking has poor inhibition function and poor prospective memory performance. In Experiment 2,ERP technology was used to record and analyze the cognitive processing process of prospective memory, and further explore the performance differences of media multitasking groups in prospective memory tasks.Because the inhibition function has an effect on the cognitive processing of prospective memory, experiment 2 further explored the specific stage of the influence of media multitasking on prospective memory. The results showed that the response time of high group was significantly longer than that of low group.EEG results showed that there was significant difference between the high group and the lowgroup in non focused prospective memory task, but there was no significant difference in focused prospective memory task.Compared with the low group, the high group induced the corrected forward-looking positive P450,that is,the influence of media multitasking on the prospective memory was in the intention extraction stage of the target cue.The conclusion of this study is that: the individuals who frequently participate in media multitasking have a negative impact on prospective memory, which is mainly manifested in the intention extraction stage of the target cue. This study is the first to explore the prospective memory characteristics of media multitasking individuals, providing behavioral and neural evidence for the impact of media multitasking on prospective memory.
