Listening,speaking,reading and writing are the four basic skills of English learning.Writing is the process of expressing feelings and outputting ideas in written language.It is an important way to cultivate students' habit of thinking in English and improve their comprehensive ability of using English.However,the status of junior high school students' writing is not optimistic.What's worse,teachers are also confused about the ways of writing teaching,because of the lack of effective teaching strategies.It is imperative to propose an effective and operable writing teaching mode to help teachers guide students' writing and improve their writing interests and abilities.In the 1960 s,the famous British psychologist Tony Buzan proposed a visual method of thinking and graphic design,which aims to help construct an individualized knowledge system.Therefore,the author combines the practicality of junior English teaching,tries to apply the mind map to junior English writing teaching,and conducts an experimental research.In this study,90 students from the Grade nine of a middle school in Ningbo City were research objects.With the use of multimedia and Mind Master6.5 software,a 14-week experiment of applying mind map to junior English writing teaching was carried out.In order to test the feasibility and effectiveness of mind map better,the author conducts the questionnaires about the students' writing interest,the interaction in English writing,the English writing strategy and the writing obstacles the students meet,and then pretest and post-test about the students' writing ability.The experiment was carried out in stages from easy to difficult.The first stage: the teacher provides the phrases and students write a passage with the help of mind map;The second stage: the teacher provides the map framework,and the students supplement the key phrases and then write;The third stage: the teacher provides the topic,the student completes the mind map and the writing.After the experiment,the author used SPSS19 software to compare the data and found that: 1.Applying the mind map to junior English writing teaching can arouse students' interest and improve their attitude towards English writing.2.Applying mind map to junior English writing teaching can increase classroom interaction.3.As an effective writing strategy,mind map is a good way to improve junior middle school students' English writing performance.
