Hailed as a charismatic art carrier of Chinese classical culture and the representative literary genre of Song Dynasty,Songci poetry is a splendid pearl of the world literature.Songci poetry encompasses two artistic styles: graceful and restrained style,as well as bold and unconstrained style.Featuring heroic and powerful,Heroic Ci poetry plays an indispensable and irreplaceable role in the history of Songci poetry and Chinese traditional culture. Most studies from home and abroad, however, pay much attention to the study of Wanyueci poetry.Studies upon the translation of Heroic Ci poetry are much fewer.Furthermore, researches on the translation of Heroic Ci poetry are limited to Su Shi's and Xin Qiji's works, short of comprehensive and systematic analysis, which results in the neglect of the Ci poetry written by other Heroic Ci poets.Large numbers of translators in the past only laid stress on the equivalence of the source language and the target language, failing to showcase the aesthetic value to readers.Image-G actualization theory, put forward by professor Jiang Qiuxia in 2002,attaches much importance to translators' cognitive process and the holistic aesthetic experience of artistic images, which has profound guiding significance for Song-dynasty Heroic Ci poetry that features bold and unconstrained beauty of sound,well-arranged sentence patterns and the magnificent artistic conception as well as embedded strong emotions. Therefore,on the basis of image-G actualization theory, this thesis selects some Heroic Ci poems written by Ci poets other than Su shi and Xin Qiji to explore the aesthetic reproduction of Song-dynasty Heroic Ci poetry translation through comparative study of several translation versions translated by domestic well-known translators, aiming at providing a new perspective for the translation of Songci poetry, and making some contributions to the dissemination of Chinese excellent traditional culture. With increasingly deepened cultural exchanges, the output of Chinese excellent traditional culture is of great importance. This thesis that concentrates on the translation study of Song-dynasty Heroic Ci poetry serves to make some contributions to showcasing China's positive image in the big stage of the world. The emotion of “family-country” and patriotic aspiration embodied in Song-dynasty Heroic Ci poetry fully demonstrate the spirit of Chinese people.Based on the detailed analysis, this thesis draws the conclusion that each Song-dynasty Heroic Ci poem is an organic unity of the sound, form and artistic conception, containing both rich emotional significance and aesthetic connotations. The image-G of Song-dynasty Heroic Ci poetry is not built upon the mere sum of individual parts but the harmonious integration of individual images and segmental linguistic constituents. Thus, translators are supposed to grasp the Gestalt essence, have a good command of the relation between the lower-level image-G and upper-level image-G and concentrate on the overall beauty of each Heroic Ci poem in the process of translation so as to reproduce the phonological beauty, the beauty of form and the beauty of artistic conception in original texts and achieve the harmony of form and spirit between target texts and source texts. This thesis provides certain theoretic and practical value for further studies upon the translation of Heroic Ci poetry and other literary genres.
