The purpose of this study is to investigate the impact of the application of electronic portfolios(e-portfolios)assessment in English writing on the performance of junior-high school students.It aims at determining the student's perception and attitude on the use of e-portfolio assessment in English writing to verify its validity.To do so,a total of seventy learners participated in the research.The study was then divided into four phases in which the first phase involved the participant's selection and homogenization.The second phase involved the administration of the writing test.The third phase involved intervention in which the study participants taking part in a three-month writing experiment.During this stage,the experimental group was then subjected to e-portfolio assessment method during language writing teaching contrary to the control group who were being assessed using the traditional paper-pen portfolio language writing assessment methods.The last phase involved the administration of post-test,questionnaires as well as interviews.A quantitative survey used well-structured questionnaires,pre-test and post-test writing materials and interviews materials.The data obtained were then analyzed using descriptive statistics for the pre–test and post-test writing materials while the questionnaire and interview responses were analyzed in accordance to individual study participant's responses.Inter-reliability,independent t-test and the matched t-test were also calculated.The study revealed that the experimental group outperformed the control group.In relation to the perception towards e-portfolio assessment,the perception of the participants in the e-portfolio group reflected that the students enjoyed and benefited keeping e-portfolio.Also,in relation to the student's attitude on the use of e-portfolio assessment,a majority were motivated with the assessments strategy in comparison to the traditional strategies.Thus the study concluded that electronic portfolios assessment can reduce the anxiety caused by English writing and consequently improve the language writing abilities of the students and therefore,e-portfolio can be considered as a motivating strategy for language writing assessment for the learners.
