"The Commercial Press Learner ' s Dictionary of Contemporary Chinese" is a representative Chinese dictionary for non-native Chinese learners.Currently,most of the Chinese scholars concentrate on explaining the meaning of words or articles.This article selects two outward dictionaries-Business Chinese Dictionary(thereafter referred to as The Commercial Press)and Oxford Advanced English-Chinese Dictionary(Oxford Advanced)as a closed field.Pick the definitions of the five basic taste words to reveal the meaning of "sour,sweet,bitter,spicy,and salty",using quantitative analysis and qualitative analysis,for comparative study from "The Commercial Press" and "Oxford Advanced." Furthermore,analyzes the processing methods of taste words in this type of dictionaries from four viewpoints: the setting of semantic terms,interpretation methods,interpretation examples,and interpretation contents.To discover the similarities and individual features of the basic taste words in these two dictionaries,which can not only present recommendations for the revision of the dictionary,advance the practical value of the dictionary,but also thoroughly enhance the formation of a dictionary for learning Chinese as a foreign language.There are four chapters in the main body of this article.First,this article has an entire statistics about the number and the order of paraphrase based on "The Commercial Press" and "Oxford Advanced".Comparing the differences between them,this article finds out that the number of paraphrase in "The Commercial Press" far less than that in "Oxford Advanced".this article then analyzes the reason of differences,makes a summary and comes up with some suggestions about words related to gestation in "The Commercial Press".Next,this articlemakes a detailed explanation about the method of paraphrase of the two dictionaries.this article also summarizes four methods of paraphrase about words related to gustation,including definition method,synonym and antonym method,elaboration method and relevance method.Definition method is the most widely used among them.Besides,this article analyzes In general,the main differences between "The Commercial Press" and "Oxford Advanced" are the order ofthe precedence of paraphrase and synonym and antonym.At last,the article studies the problem from paraphrase method in "The Commercial Press" and its revising.Moreover,this article has a discussion and comparison between the number of examples and the style of them for the two dictionaries.Comparing the data,the author find out that the number of examples in "The Commercial Press" is more than that in "The Commercial Press".From the aspect of style,in the two dictionaries,the the style of examples about words related to gustation is mainly about a whole sentence.But this kind of situation is more common in "The Commercial Press".In the end,the article gives some suggestions in order to improve the examples of words related to gustation in "The Commercial Press".Finally,this article also focuses on the study that the manings of the interpretation of the basic taste words' in "The Commercial Press" and "Oxford Advanced".When it comes to this chapter,the definitions in the dictionary are divided detailly,which includes the generic words indicating the category and the characteristics of the basic taste words.Meanwhile,basing on subdividing the content of the interpretation,comparative analysis is made on the definition of the basic taste words' in "The Commercial Press" and "Oxford Advanced".this article analyzes advantages and disadvantages in "The Commercial Press" and "Oxford Advanced",In the end,the article gives some suggestions in order to improve the manings of the interpretation of the basic taste words in "The Commercial Press".
