Affected by the trend of "new historiography",oral history grew up in China in the 1980 s and has been in development for more than 30 years up to now.For decades,domestic scholars have made outstanding achievements in many fields including oral history of the Anti-Japanese War,oral history of the educated youth,oral history of women and oral history of ethnic minorities.In the past 30 years,the research on oral history of ethnic minorities has achieved important results in areas such as social changes,cultural customs,and women 's history in ethnic areas.This paper reviews the past 30 years' practical achievements of scholars in mainland China study on oral history of ethnic minorities in Southwest China from the respect of content,methods and characteristics.It is believed that under the influence of ethnology,sociology and anthropology,the study of oral history of ethnic minorities in southwestern China uses comprehensive research methods such as interviews,field investigations,case studies,etc.These methods broaden dimension and depth of the study of minority history.At the same time,the research shows the characteristics of method diversification,forms of expression diversification and content diversity but imbalance,etc.Of course,there are deficiencies in theoretical research and practical standards.By studying the oral history of ethnic minorities in the southwest region,it not only made up for the lack of documentation,and opened up new areas and new directions for the study of ethnic minority history,which preserves the rich and colorful history and culture of various ethnic groups in China,also helps build diversity Perspective,vivid and powerful history discipline.
