Research On Female Image In American Sports Films In The 21st Century

With the significant promotion of global economic level and improvement of people's cognitive and civilization levels,female position has been promoted and widespread concerned in the society.Female images have been presented more in films,especially sports films.As the epitomes of social attention and attitudes toward females,sports films reflect the living states and social positions of females as well as social attitudes toward them,and enlighten people to focus on female images in films from a macro perspective so as to envisage the connection and differences between female images in films and female groups in real life,and strengthen the thinking and understanding of the real life.This thesis selects six American sports films in 21^st century as research objects to compare the female images in films of different themes and the different shaping forms of female images.Applying feminism theory to discuss the female images in American sports films in 21^st century can verify the basic viewpoints of the theory in sports films and achieve its innovation and development in sports news communication.The thesis finds that in American female sports films in 21^st century,with the constant development of feminism theory and its progress in sports films,females gradually deviate from the images of mainstream ideology before 21^st century,begin to have their independent life views,enjoy certain social positions and resources,and move off the backburner and to the forefront of males to a certain extent.In spite of the constant development of feminism theory and female liberation to some extent,there still exists some defects in gender equality and establishment of egalitarian social structure.In the meantime of studying the female images in six American sports films,the thesis also analyzes the construction of female images in sports films from the aspects of features of female images,construction of female identity and construction of female relations,finding that sports films not only depict females'graceful physical appearance and tender emotions,but also reflects the de-feminization features of their character shaping;not only embodies their self-struggle,but also portrays the unity of opposites in their pursuing personal development and social development.Meanwhile,the thesis offers strategies and proposals in the shaping of female images in Chinese sports films through the summary of study on female images in American sports films in 21^st century,hoping that sports films can break through the stereotype and gender conception differences in depicting female images,strengthen the construction of gender equality of opportunity and provide correct guidance on the audience.
