Reading ability is one of the most basic and important skills in English learning. It is also an important part of students' comprehensive application ability.Due to the factors of learning background and language differences, minority language teaching students have their own characteristics in English reading learning.Previous studies have shown that English reading self-efficacy is one of the most important affective factors that affect students' reading performance. Most of the relevant research involves Non-English Majors and senior high school students, and the research on minority language teaching students needs to be enriched. In order to explore the influence of reading self-efficacy of minority language teaching students on their reading performance, this study takes self-efficacy theory, social cognitive theory and humanism as the theoretical basis, and takes Mongolian teaching students of English major in Inner Mongolia Normal University as the research object to explore the following two questions:(1)What is the current situation of the English reading self-efficacy of English major students of Mongolian teaching?(2)What is the correlation between English reading self-efficacy and reading achievement?Through questionnaires and interviews, the results are as follows:(1)The English reading self-efficacy of English majors of Mongolian teaching is generally at a medium level.Among the three dimensions of English reading self-efficacy,the sense of effort is at a high level, while the sense of ability and the sense of coping with setbacks and challengesare at a medium level. From sophomore to senior, students' self-efficacy in English reading and its three dimensions all show a trend of decreasing first and then increasing.(2)There is a low positive correlation between the sense of effort, the sense of coping with setbacks and challenges and the reading achievement. There is a moderate positive correlation between the sense of ability and reading achievement. The reading self-efficacy of Mongolian teaching students of English major is positively correlated with their English reading performance. The results of regression analysis show that the self-efficacy of English reading has a good predictive effect on English reading performance, explaining the13% variation of English reading performance. Finally, the thesis puts forward some suggestions for teachers and students to improve their self-efficacy in English reading.(1)Set reasonable reading goals and tasks,so that students can have a successful experience.(2)Conduct attribution training to guide students to form a correct way of attribution.(3)Set an example of success.(4)Establish multiple ways of reading ability evaluation.(5)Pay attention to emotional factors and create a harmonious environment.(6)Pay attention to the basis of reading and improve students' reading ability.Although this study takes Mongolian teaching students as an example, the results of this study can be used for reference to understand the level of English reading self-efficacy of other ethnic language teaching students.
