Oral English ability has become increasingly important in t oday?s society.Because Oral English ability is not only an important index in measuring the level of students? language proficiency,but also it is an essential part of the process of English learning.However,there are relatively few teaching resources besides textbooks in primary English teaching.Some students do not have much interest in learning English.The New Curriculum Standards for Primary School English(2011 Edition)points that teachers should enrich the teaching resources and broaden the channels of English learning.Therefore,it is necessary for teachers to develop and use the English learning r esources creatively in actual life.With the popularity of English pi cture books in recent years,more and more educators have realized that teachers should exert English picture books? educational value ad equately.The thesis aims to explore the effects which English picture books as supplementary materials were applied to primary oral English teaching.Therefore,the writer conducted a teaching experiment as an attempt to discusses the following two questions:(1)Can the application of English picture books in primary oral English teaching stimulate pupils? interest better than traditional oral teaching method?(2)Can the application of English picture books in primary oral English teaching improve the pupils? oral English ability?Based on Krashen? Language Input Hypothesis,Piaget?s Cognitive Theory,this study conducted a one-semester teaching experiment in the school taught by the author.80 students from two classes were chosen as subjects in the experiment.An empirical study was carried out in the fourth grade.The research methods adopted in th is study include tests,questionnaires and class observations.Finally,the data was collected and analyzed by using SPSS22.0 software.The writer reached satisfied conclusions.Firstly,as supplement and extension of the teaching materials,English pictur e books can stimulate the students? interests in oral English learning.Secondly,the students? oral ability was drastically improved.It has improved greatly in pronunciation and intonation,lexical diversity and fluency.This teaching experiment has confirmed the feasibility of English picture book to teach oral English in primary school.
