With Wang Qiang(2018)redefining the core literacy of English,the added “viewing” ability is being increasingly focused by educators.Graphic organizer as a visual tool invented by Barron,can be used to help learners analyze and understand learning materials.This means that the graph organizer can also be used as an effective learning strategy,which plays an important role in improving students' self-efficacy.English writing has always been an important part of the four basic skills.It is one of the important ways to test students' language output.Writing self-efficacy is defined as the writer's judgment on his own writing(Mitchell,2017).Based on lots of previous studies on writing self-efficacy,students with high writing self-efficacy also have high writing performance level.However,there are few studies on whether the use of graphic organizer can affect writing self-efficacy.This study will provide some constructive suggestions for further research.In this study,191 students from a senior high school in Jiujiang,Jiangxi Province,were selected as the research participants.Among them,140 students took the experimental class and doing their writing tasks by using graphic organizer.The other 51 students used the traditional writing teaching method as the control class.The instruments used in this study are writing pretest and post-test,writing self-efficacy questionnaire pretest and post-test.The study answers the following questions:(1)Does graphic organizer use have an effect on students' writing performance?(2)Does graphic organizer use have an effect on students' writing self-efficacy?(3)If so,how graphic organizer affects students' writing self-efficacy with different levels?The main findings of this study are as follows:First,there is a big difference between the writing performance in pretest and post-test of experimental class,which indicates that the use of graphic organizers in English writing class plays a positive role in improving students' writing performance.Secondly,there is a significant difference between the writing efficacy in pretest and post-test of experimental class,which shows that the use of graphic organizers in English writing class can have a positive impact on students' writing efficiency.Thirdly,there is a correlation between the writing performance of students with different writing self-efficacy levels when they all use graphic organizers as their writing strategies.To sum up,in both high and low the students' writing self-efficacy,with the help of the graphic organizer,the correlation between writing performance and writing self-efficacy is significant.The higher the score of writing is,the higher the self-efficacy of writing will be,and vice versa.
