English writing plays an important role in junior high school English teaching.The English Curriculum Standards for Compulsory Education puts forward higher requirements for writing ability of students.So in junior high school English teaching,teachers and students should pay more attention to English writing ability.But English writing classes are often combined with English reading classes and review lessons.In English teaching,some students have negative attitude towards to the English writing because of their teachers pay too much attention to the knowledge of language and ignore the cultivation of writing ability.Mind mapping is used as a graphical tool,it can make the complex and fragmentary information intuitively and concretely,it can change the limitations of linear thinking,it can make the thinking more extendable.Therefore,this paper applies mind mapping to junior high school English teaching,to explore the impact of mind mapping teaching on students’ writing ability.This study mainly discusses three questions.The first question is how to use mind mapping in junior high school English writing teaching.The second question is how mind mapping affects the students writing performance in junior high school English writing teaching.The third question is how mind mapping affects the students writing methods,writing interest,and writing attitude in junior high school English writing teaching.In this paper,40 students were selected as the research subjects for one semester,who are from the class of Grade Eight in K Junior High School in C City.Through the English test,it is found that the students’ English writing scores are relatively low and their writing ability is relatively weak.Then we use mind mapping to teach writing in the class,and methods are constantly improved to get better results in the process of teaching.At the end of the semester,the students were tested in writing,questionnaire and interview again.Then the author collected,compared and analyzed the relevant data during the experiment to draw the conclusions.The study proves that the application of mind mapping can increase the students’ interest and enhance their self-confidence in English writing.It can change the students’ attitude towards to the English writing.It also can improve students’ English writing performance,improve students’ English writing ability.Through a semester of mind mapping teaching,it provides some enlightenments for junior high school writing teachings.Firstly,mind mapping can change the teaching model of the English teachers.Teachers focus on whether the students have learned and mastered certain language skills instead of language knowledge.Secondly,mind mapping can transform the students’ learning patterns.Students learn actively instead of passively.This learning mode could improve the students’ writing ability and it is also helpful to cultivate the students’ autonomous learning ability.
