People's Daily has a history of more than 70 years since its official publication on June 15,1948.The editorial published on the day of New Year's Day is called the New Year's Day editorial,and it has certain characteristics in language use.With the changes in social,political,economic,and cultural characteristics,"People's Daily" New Year's Day editorial language use also has the change.This research is based on 71 pieces of New Year's Day editorial of People's Daily from 1949 to 2019.The research is exhaustive through word segmentation software and manual annotation,this paper probes into the language features of New Year's Day editorials from three aspects of vocabulary,sentence and figure of speech,and uses a research method combining quantitative statistics with qualitative analysis to sort out the data,a more objective examination of the "people's Daily" New Year's Day editorial language style changes.This article is divided into five chapters.The first chapter introduces the relevant situation of topic selection,summarizes the existing research results and introduces the research methods and sources of the Corpus.The second chapter analyzes the "People's Daily" New Year's day editorial vocabulary situation.Vocabulary types are rich,reflecting the comprehensive characteristics.The frequent use of the words "we" "people" and "year" reflects the particularity of the New Year editorial.In addition,from the perspective of lexical density and lexical variability,this paper examines the changes of the amount of information and lexical richness in the New Year's Day editorial discourse.Chapter three analyzes the usage of the New Year's Day editorial sentences in people's Daily from the aspects of sentence types and sentence patterns.The editorial sentences of People's Daily on New Year's Day are mainly declarative sentences,supplemented by exclamatory sentences,interrogative sentences and imperative sentences.In recent years,interrogative sentences have been re-used,and imperative and exclamatory sentences are often expressed as declarative sentences.In the sentence style,tend to use long sentences,complex sentences,showing the characteristics of long and strict.In addition,from the diachronic point of view,this paper analyzes the differences in sentence types and sentence patterns of People's Daily editorial on New Year's Day.In the fourth chapter,we find that the editorial rhetoric of People's Daily on New Year's Day is widely used,such as parallelism,repetition,dual and other high-frequency rhetoric,and presents high-frequency prominent characteristics.In addition,the increasing use of figures of speech and the diachronic changes of high-frequency figures of speech in New Year's Day editorials from 1949 to 2019 reflect the importance of language skills.The fifth chapter concludes with a summary of the language features of the People's Daily editorial on New Year's Day,which is mainly reflected in its rich vocabulary types,long and precise sentence forms,and high-frequency concentration of figures of speech,and further explores its language changes over the years,the changes in the choice of words,sentence patterns and figures of speech have made the editorial articles of People's Daily on New Year's Day more concise,less "quantity" and more "quality".
